Green Mountain Gardeners fosters horticulture, beautification and conservation of all natural resources. Our monthly and bi-annual events inform and inspire the gardener in everyone!
Community Education
Workshops and presentations open to the community
Our community education programs offer expertise on topics including sustainable gardening for biodiversity, pruning techniques, growing micro-greens, caring for flowering plants and tips to help your gardens thrive. We also facilitate workshops for those who are interested in creating seasonal, local and sustainable floral and holiday arrangements.
Community Outreach
Our community outreach efforts include the Annual Wreath Sale (supporting Flood Brook Student Activities Cooperative), the Boxwood Holiday Tree Workshop (creating table-top decorations for the homebound), and Christmas bake sales (proceeds go to a local non-profit).
Art In Bloom
Bi-Annual Event
Art In Bloom brings together local artists and students to show and sell their art. Floral arrangements are created and donated by GMG members' to enhance and complement works of art. Proceeds from auction and donations support the Londonderry Arts & Historical Society.
Garden Tour
Bi-Annual Event
The Garden Walks Garden Tour provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to explore private gardens that capture the essence and beauty of Vermont. This event honors and recognizes those who own and nurture these gardens and has historically been an important source of support for the Lib Thieme Scholarship.
Civic Beautification
GMG takes pride in initiating special beautification projects to brighten the lives of local residents and visitors. Each year our team is committed to facilitating the Spring Clean-Up in Londonderry at the Post Office, the Arts & Historical Society and the Rescue Squad facility. Other efforts include the clean up and maintenance of Weston’s Farrar Mansur Museum, the plantings at the town hall in Landgrove, decorating and distributing holiday wreaths to our civic buildings, and planting trees and spring bulbs throughout our mountain towns.
Lib Thieme Scholarship
Critical to the GMG mission to educate and foster areas of horticulture, beautification and conservation of all natural resources is the Lib Thieme Scholarship. Initially funded by GMG founder Lib Thieme, the scholarship program continues to be funded through garden tours, plant sales and community events. The scholarship provides monetary assistance for college or vocational studies in environmental sciences, landscape design, conservation, agriculture, and ecology to area students.
